Selet Program Information

What is Select?

The Select Program was established to provide an additional opportunity for players who wish to develop their softball skills beyond the Recreation League while competing at a higher level. This program is available for players in the 8U through 14U divisions.

SDYSA Select teams will practice together and compete in friendlies and tournaments against other leagues throughout the Fall season.

Participation on a Select team does not automatically determine All-Star team selection. While the additional competition and skill development can help prepare players for future opportunities, participation on a Select team does not guarantee selection to an SDYSA All-Star team.



Requirements

  • Must be registered with SDYSA before attending Select tryouts.
  • Registration fees must be paid in full.



Schedule

  • First round of Select tryouts will begin in mid-August 2026.
  • Additional information regarding tryouts will be announced after Fall Ball registration.



Select Teams Will

  • Be formed by coaches approved by the SDYSA Board.
  • Evaluate interested players during the tryout process.
  • Roster players based on evaluations and team needs.
  • Focus on skill development in preparation for higher levels of competition.
  • Provide opportunities to compete against other Select teams.
  • Emphasize position-specific development. Every position on the field plays a critical role, and players will receive instruction to help them excel at the positions where they demonstrate the greatest potential.



Select Teams Will Not

  • Prevent players from trying out for All-Stars. Players who do not participate in Select are still eligible for All-Star consideration, and participation in Select does not guarantee an All-Star roster spot.
  • Guarantee equal playing time. Playing time will be determined by the head coach based on game situations, player development, and the team's competitive needs.
